What affects the cost of turf laying?
Every garden is different, so we price each one individually. Here's a look at what makes up a turf laying quote.

The main things that shape a price
The size of the lawn is the starting point, but it's rarely the whole story. Two gardens of the same size can need very different amounts of work.
Parts of a quote
| Part | What it covers | What changes it |
|---|---|---|
| Lifting the old lawn | Cutting out and removing existing grass | Area, and how thick or weedy it is |
| Ground preparation | Loosening, levelling, firming and raking | Compaction, bumps and slopes |
| Topsoil | Building up thin or poor soil | How much is needed for your garden |
| Turf and laying | Supplying and laying the turf | Lawn area and shape |
| Waste removal | Taking away green waste | Amount of old turf and weeds |
| Builders' rubble | Removing brick, concrete and hardcore | Priced separately, by amount |
Access
A garden with a wide side gate is quicker to work in than one reached through the house or down a long lane. That time is part of the quote, so tell us how we get in.
Booking and paying
Once you're happy with your quote, you can book from just £100 deposit. The deposit comes off your final bill, and what remains is paid when work begins on site; see our turf laying terms for the full detail.

Questions people ask
Is there a price per square metre?
Not one we publish, because preparation varies so much. A price for the turf alone wouldn't tell you what your garden will actually cost.
Is VAT included?
Yes, the prices on your quote include VAT.
What if you find something unexpected on the day?
If we find buried rubble, or the job turns out bigger than described, we'll stop, explain and settle any extra cost with you first.
