1. Quotes

Your quote is based on the details you give us, such as sizes and notes, and on anything we see if we visit. It states how long the price is valid for.

The quote sets out each part of the job separately, for example lifting the existing lawn, preparing the ground, topsoil, turf, laying and removing waste. Where builders' rubble has to go, it's listed separately. All prices include VAT.

If something unexpected turns up on the day, such as buried rubble, a larger area or harder access than described, we'll pause, explain the difference and settle any extra cost with you before going further.

2. Deposit and payment

You book by accepting your quote and paying the deposit shown on it. The deposit is deducted from your final bill.

The remaining balance is payable on the day the work starts. Turf and materials remain our property until we've been paid in full.

3. Your right to cancel within 14 days

As the contract is made at a distance or off business premises, you have 14 days from accepting your quote to cancel, and you don't need to give a reason. Let us know by emailing info@newcastleturfing.co.uk or by post to the address in the final section.

If you ask us in writing to begin work within the 14 days and then cancel before work begins, you'll pay any costs we've already committed to and can't get back, for example turf already cut for you. Once we've started on site, the whole price is due.

Standard cancellation wording you can use: "I give notice that I cancel my contract for turf laying at [address], accepted on [date]. Name, address, signature (if on paper), date."

4. Changes and cancellation after 14 days

If your date needs to move, let us know as soon as you can and we'll agree a new one, with your deposit carried over. Cancelling after those 14 days means we keep the deposit towards our costs, and any turf already ordered or cut for your job is payable.

5. Dates and weather

Dates are agreed in good faith, but frozen or waterlogged ground, turf supply or an earlier job overrunning can mean a change; if so, we'll let you know and offer another. Most gardens are finished within a day; complex or larger jobs can take more time.

6. Access and underground services

We need safe access to the lawn, room to unload nearby and an outside tap. If the only access is through your home or garage, tell us when you request your quote.

Before work starts, tell us where buried pipes, cables, drains, soakaways or irrigation run, and mark them if you can. We can't accept liability for damage to concealed services that weren't pointed out and that we couldn't reasonably have discovered.

7. Natural variation in turf

Turf is grown outdoors, which means colour and texture change with the seasons and from one harvest to the next. Some rolls arrive with torn edges or in two pieces; that's normal for freshly cut turf, and these join up once laid rather than being a defect. If the turf on your quote is unavailable, we may lay an equivalent.

8. Aftercare

Until it roots, new turf must be watered thoroughly and often. Before leaving, we'll run through watering and the first cut with you. Once laid, how well it establishes depends on things we can't control, like watering, weather, soil conditions and the use it gets, so we can't promise it will take.

If you're worried about your new lawn, get in touch as soon as possible and we'll help where we reasonably can.

9. Photos

We may photograph your garden before and after the work for our files and as examples of what we do. People, house numbers and number plates are kept out of shot. Prefer us not to use your photos in our marketing? Just say.

10. Our liability

We'll do the work with reasonable care and skill. Where we breach these terms or are negligent, we're liable for loss or damage that both of us could have foreseen. We aren't liable for unforeseeable loss or for any business losses.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. None of this affects your statutory rights.

11. General

Our privacy policy explains how we use personal information. We may update these terms from time to time; the version on our website on the day you accept your quote applies to your job. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
